The Independence Heights Redevelopment Council (IHRC) was founded  in 2007 by  twelve community leaders. Since its inception, the Independence  Heights  Redevelopment Council has been working to establish itself as the lead  agency  in revitalizing Independence Heights. Because of its broad base of   participation and support, the IHRC is uniquely positioned as a major force in helping to renew the Independence Heights community.

Unique in its  approach to community development, the IHRC takes a  different route to  community revitalization than approaches traditionally taken  in other Houston  communities. Under the Sustainable Communities model, the IHRC  supports the
belief that distressed low- and moderate-income areas can become  good places to live, work, worship, do business and raise families. The idea is
to approach community development from a much more comprehensive standpoint with the realization that one component is dependent upon the other to achieve sustainable results.

Marketing and Beautification

Keeping the community name in the "limelight" and making sure the physical attributes of the community reflect the pride and spirit of the residents is the goal of our marketing and beautification initiatives.

Leadership and Civic Engagement
